Welcome
Welcome to the 2020 United States Open Robotics Championship. We are excited to have you here to help us celebrate the accomplishments of these young men and women. Whether their robots perform with perfect precision, or fall short of expectations, they are richer for having participated and therefore have already succeeded. What is learned is more important than what is won. Welcome to the celebration!

Tournament Officials
Head Judge - Kimberly Liebig - Ms. Kim Liebig has a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management from Concordia University. She is a Careers Outreach Programs Specialist for Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD). Kim has been with NPPD for over 26 years, working in various positions. She travels extensively going into middle schools and high schools talking about career opportunities in the electric utility industry and doing outreach activities with students and teachers. One of her outreach programs has been working with VEX robotics. Kim has been involved in most all aspects of tournaments since 2009 and has been a champion of robotics competitions as a way to help grow interest in engineering and related fields.
Head Referee - Mr. Bernie Baker - Bernie Baker is the Director of Information Technology at ConAgra Foods - Retired. He received a Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Administration from St. Louis University and a Masters in Business from Indiana University. He has held a variety of roles for over 35 years from programming, to IT Management; supporting business, finance, research, and engineering departments in the Food and Agribusiness industries.
Head Referee - VRC High School - Mr. Neil Runyon - Probably a familiar face to most of those in the robotics programs, Neil has been volunteering / refereeing robotic events for both VEX and CREATE Open since the dawn of time (or so it seems). His son (Gabriel) and daughter (Cassidy) participated for several years in robotics and still volunteer at events when they have time. Natalie, his wife, has been a long-time coach at both the middle school, and now, high school level. Neil has his undergraduate degree in Computer Science/Mathematics from the University of Utah and an MBA from University of Nebraska at Omaha. He has been employed for more than 25 years at a local financial institution in their IT department.
Head Referee - VRC Middle School - Mr. Vic Culp - Vic Culp is an Air Force retiree who served in a wide variety of positions in the DOD, both on active duty and as a civilian, for over 30 years. He is now the office and facilities manager at the largest Episcopal Church in Nebraska. Vic has been involved with VEX robotics for ten years, starting as a logistical support parent with two sons who are alumni of the Gross Catholic High School robotics program, and now as a referee for the past four years. Vic has a BS in behavioral science from the U.S. Air Force Academy, and an MA from Webster University.
Head Referee - Open Division- Mr. Randy Parsons - Randy Parsons is an IT Project Manager at QAT Global. He has been active in Vex Robotics for 4 years and has been a Vex Robotics and CREATE Open referee for 2 years. Randy has also been active in Boy Scouts for over 10 years. He graduated from the University of Missouri – Rolla (Missouri School of Science & Technology) with a degree in Chemical Engineering and worked 10 years at the OPPD Ft. Calhoun Nuclear Power Station in the Design Engineering Division and 21 years for QAT Global as an IT consultant and Project Manager.
Head of Electronic Systems - Mr. Jim Musil - Jim Musil has a BS, Education/Industrial Technology degree from the University of Nebraaska-Lincoln, an MS in Curriculum and Learning from Wayne State College, and a Certificate in Administration from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Currently the Curriculum Supervisor of Industrial Technology and Curriculum Supervisor, Envirnonmental and Agricultural Systems for Omaha Public Schools. Mr. Musil's career also includes over 10 years as a classroom teacher. In addition to his duties at OPS, Mr. Musil is also the Wood Shop Instructor at the Omaha Home for Boys.
